Shissler Rec Advisory Council Meeting + Elections

Do you use the Shissler Rec playground, athletic fields, or walking path to the El? Or do you use the Palmer Doggie Depot, or the Big Green Block, and want to be a part of making all of these neighborhood spaces even better?

Come to a meeting at Shissler next Tuesday, September 18th at 6:30 pm to discuss upcoming leadership changes at the Rec, and join the new Rec Advisory Council (RAC) that's forming.

There are some big leadership transitions happening at Shissler Rec, with current Rec leader Bill Malizia retiring, and the selection process to replace him now underway. Dan DiBerardinis will be the acting supervisor at the Rec in the meantime.

There will also be a new Rec Advisory Council (RAC) forming, which will be like a board for the Rec that's involved in setting the direction, coming up with programming for Shissler and the surrounding spaces, and undertaking some initiatives and projects.

If you're interested in getting involved at Shissler, come to the next meeting on Tuesday, September 18th at 6:30 pm at Shissler Rec, and throw your hat in the ring for the RAC elections.

At this meeting, the group will elect some officers to the RAC, and we're hoping that people who use each of the different public spaces in this area—the playground and sprayground, the athletic fields, KCAPA, Doggie Depot, Big Green Block, and the walking path to the El—will have some representation on the board so everybody's interests are taken into account. If you know someone who uses any these spaces a lot, please invite them to the meeting.

A few possible ideas for projects at Shissler that had some support at two prior meetings of Rec stakeholders this year included public space improvements to the Big Green Block (like shade and more seating), a possible redesign of the playground, and pedestrian safety improvements for the walking path to the El, and for Blair and Montgomery Ave near Frankford.

If you use these spaces or know someone who does, we need some neighbors to step up and get involved in making these public spaces the best they can be, for everyone who uses them.

Below is a brief agenda from Bill Malizia for what we'll cover. District Manager Tom Dignam and Acting Shissler Supervisor Dan DiBerardinis will preside over the meeting.
